"Left-socialism do we need it?"

Fri Aug 15, 2008 at 07:48:19 PM PDT

Recently a group that I belong to, made up of Americans, British, Dutch and Canadians got into a discussion of left and right leaning socialism.

While it was evident from the beginning which were Americans from their shouting matches over the benefits of electing Obama or McCain, there was several intelligent individuals who condemned America's left-socialism and claimed it was the cause of all our problems today.

How Important Is "We"?

Fri Jul 25, 2008 at 12:50:02 AM PDT

Many times we use words and phrases without any idea of where they may have originated from. Take the word "We" for example if you wanted to find out about its origins and usage you could go to wikipedia.org/wiki/We  and find how it is used in other countries and languages.

Most of us are not only familiar with it as a pronoun in the English language, we use it in everyday conversation without a thought. We, the word is sometimes over worked.

Unity A Necessary Commitment

Fri Jul 18, 2008 at 01:04:35 PM PDT

When we as American citizens are called upon to work for and support not only our chosen Party, but the candidate that our Party has selected for the General Election, then that is what we must do, to do other wise is to commit a serious wrong. The Constitution grants us certain rights and common sense requires that we should exercise those rights.

As our forefathers before us and the succeeding generations since have accepted the truth that all men/women are created equal; that by the very citizenship granted by this the Government of the United States of America, they must participate in the political system that these same forefathers had designed, to fail to do so will allow a government that will gather onto itself powers other than those granted by the governed.

A Hand in Your Pocket!

Thu Jul 17, 2008 at 01:57:55 AM PDT

There probably isn’t a man alive who doesn’t reach his hand into his pocket on a daily basis. It is a normal occurrence, paying for a purchase, or just standing around waiting for something, hand in the pocket without giving it a thought.

Well the news out of Washington Friday July 11 was more than a bit disturbing. It seems that we are all familiar with George Bush and his moneyed Republican friends sticking their hands into our pockets, through high gasoline and food prices, as well as through taxes on everything including the kitchen sink.

The Audacity to Flout Tradition

Wed Jul 09, 2008 at 10:17:28 PM PDT

Barack Obama has re-energized American Politics. No one has been able to draw the huge crowds he does; no one has renewed the pulsating desire to participate like he has. Many speak of the JFK years with longing and claim to see images of that era reflected in the Obama campaign. I don’t. Having lived during the JFK era, having worked as a teenager to get him elected, the comparison doesn’t quite jibe. Read More

July 4th Independence Day 2008

Fri Jul 04, 2008 at 01:52:44 AM PDT

Many are declaring that they are independents this year, most as a protest because (gasp) a black man defeated their candidate who happened to be the first woman presidential candidate, at least one for a major party. (If anyone else had been their candidate there would be cries of racism but hey these so called Democrats are not bigots, they would never stoop to racist remarks, but supporting a Black man for President is going a bit to far).

How do these so called declarations of independence compare to that one 221 years ago?

When Does It Stop?

Mon Jun 23, 2008 at 11:39:46 AM PDT

Recently I who am a member of a group on Democrats.org was like other members subjected to a series of emails designed to garner support for a Hillary write in campaign, and barring that threaten us and the Party with switching their vote to McCain. While I have little time for these threats, I do feel that they must be answered.

Questions unanswered in media

Sun Jun 22, 2008 at 05:00:00 AM PDT

Can someone explain to me why America Coming Together (ACT), which in the past has been associated with Progressive Democratic Candidates and Causes, is suddenly a mirror site of the John McCain official campaign website http://www.johnmccain.com/?

Should We Disband?

Fri Jun 20, 2008 at 10:40:45 PM PDT

21 months ago we formed a "527" Pac to use as a vehicle to fund our organization and Progressive Issues and Candidates. We had a hope that there would be some large donors step forth to contribute towards the maintenance of our programs and sites. This has not happened. For that matter neither have the small donations. There have been a few but not enough to maintain an office and pay the bills.

Four dollar a gallon gasoline? Why?

Wed Jun 11, 2008 at 10:43:31 AM PDT

On June 6th, 2008 the average price of gasoline across the nation rose to $4 per gallon.

"There’s nothing worse for our economy than surging energy prices at record highs," said Mark Zandi, Chief Economist for Moodys.com.

What do Jesse James and Big Oil have in common? Nothing if you believe the legends of Jesse James, who supposedly robbed from the rich and distributed his ill gotten gains to the poor. Big Oil robs from all of us and keeps the ill gotten gains for themselves.

It Came To Pass!

Fri Aug 03, 2007 at 10:09:05 AM PDT

In my Diary entry for July 30th, I said; "It's A Lock" that Karl Rove would not testify before the Judiciary Committee and yesterday it came to pass.

Karl Rove who acts with such impunity now has the ultimate protection:
absolute immunity from congressional oversight, at least in the judgment of White House Counsel Fred Fielding.

It's A Lock!

Mon Jul 30, 2007 at 10:01:23 PM PDT

How much would you be willing to wager that Rove will not comply with the Senate Judiciary Committee subpoenas? If I had the money, I would wager the entire amount, it would be a lock!

Are You a “We” or “Me”?

Wed Jul 11, 2007 at 04:11:09 PM PDT

Over the last three decades, we have watched as people have left the "we" lifestyle and gone to the "me" lifestyle, only to appear to be coming back around to the "we".

What do I mean? Back in the 50’s and 60’s as I was growing up, neighbors helped neighbors, families were close. I am talking of extended families. They held regular family dinners, some more than others, but they faced one another and talked, really talked about the issues of the day.

Gonzales Gives Term “Sleazy Lawyers” New Meaning

Mon Jun 11, 2007 at 02:23:36 PM PDT

Attorney General Alberto Gonzales, in his role as President Bush’s number one "Yes Man", reminds me of the Nazi generals during their trials in Europe after World War II, when their number one answer was "I was following orders."

This is crap; Gonzales has consistently twisted the law to fit Bush’s interpretation or at least his wishes. He has created paths for torture and detention that are a violation of our nations laws; he has acted like the law and the Constitution are not enforceable on this President and his cohorts.

Action Alert Help Needed

Thu Jun 07, 2007 at 05:20:27 AM PDT

Hey WeDems need your help TODAY,

I just called all 8 democratic members of the House Judiciary subcommittee on Civil Rights and the Constitution... who are holding hearings starting on the 7th into civil rights erosion, privacy intrusions from the Patriot Act etcetera and asked them if the various congressmen could include, weather the federal government should be tracking every prescription written in this country? They all we're very friendly,  said they would pass my question along to the congressman or woman (there is one), but it always helps if they hear it from more than one person. This bill removes the privacy between Doctor and Patient, we have to move fast Please Call NOW!

Did Shakespeare Foresee George W. Bush?

Tue May 29, 2007 at 11:06:35 PM PDT

Someone sent me this the other day, it was mean't as an insult to me, at least I think that was the intention of the sender.

But it screamed GWB to me. Only a miserable failure by any measure of a President could leave this country poorer, less secure and a far more violent society. He wanted to leave his mark in the history books, perhaps these words of Shakespeare will be his legacy.

Thank You Cindy

Tue May 29, 2007 at 03:53:29 PM PDT

Dear Cindy,

Marie and I are deeply disturbed that progressives have joined in the ridicule of your efforts. While I don’t agree that you should have resigned, I do understand what you have gone thru, having lost one son and another still in Iraq, and why you did resign.
